The Fabric

The first thing you need to decide is the fabric. It is an essential part to decide early since it will determine how well it will decorate your window. Fabrics that are too heavy will be not fold perfectly while fabrics that are too light will not fall nicely. The best way to know whether the fabric of your choice fits in the criteria is by holding the fabric up and pleating it like an accordion. If it falls well, then it will look well too on your window.

Thick fabric will give your room better protection from the light from outside. It will also give you better privacy. Thin one, on the other hand, may still let some light in as well as lesser privacy.

Some fabrics have the advantage of blocking the light out and keeping the heat in. Velvet, suede, and tweet are among those fabrics.

The Color

Matching the color of your curtain to the room’s atmosphere is the first thing that must come in your consideration list. Big curtains on big windows can affect the room’s tone completely. Dark colors will cool down the room’s ambiance, bright colors will warm up the room’s ambiance.

However, the second thing in the list must be how much sun light the curtain will be exposed to. Bright colors tend to fade faster. Choose neutral colors or soft colors if your room décor allows them. Faux silk is recommended for its color durability.

The length

Last but not least, make sure you get the length right. Hanging panels are hanged six or more inches above the window. Do not forget to add that additional length to your curtain. Add some few inches to the sides, too. It will help to block any creeping light into your room.
